Hexagram 34 · The Power of the Great

利贞。
大壮象征力量强盛。利于守正。雷鸣于天上，气势磅礴。但强壮至极时，最易因过度用强而陷入困境。
初九 壮于趾，征凶，有孚。
九二 贞吉。
九三 小人用壮，君子用罔。贞厉。羝羊触藩，羸其角。
九四 贞吉，悔亡。藩决不羸，壮于大舆之輹。
六五 丧羊于易，无悔。
上六 羝羊触藩，不能退，不能遂，无攸利，艰则吉。

利贞。
Great strength on display — staying true to principle is what makes it worthwhile.
Initial Nine: Strength concentrated in the toes alone — pushing forward now brings misfortune, without question.
Nine in the second: Holding firm here brings good fortune.
Nine in the third: The small-minded person relies on raw force; someone of real character won't stoop to that. Pressing on regardless is dangerous — picture a ram charging a fence and getting its horns stuck fast.
Nine in the fourth: Staying steady here brings good fortune and regret fades. The fence gives way and the horns pull free — real strength shows itself in the sturdy axle of a great cart, not in charging.
Six in the fifth: Lets the ram go without a fight — no regret in that.
Six at the top: A ram rams the fence and gets stuck — no way forward, no way back, nothing to be gained by forcing it. Only by facing the difficulty honestly does fortune turn favorable.
