Stilling oneself at the back, where there is no longer awareness of the body; walking through one's own courtyard without registering the people in it — there is nothing to fault in this.
Initial Six: Stopping right at the toes, before any step is taken -- no fault in that, and holding this discipline over time is what pays off.
Six in the second: Stopping at the calves, unable to move -- there's no way to help the one you're following, and the heart isn't at ease about it.
Nine in the third: Forcing a stop right at the waist splits the spine's own line of movement -- a dangerous rigidity that leaves the heart feeling choked.
Six in the fourth: Stopping the whole body at once, fully at rest -- nothing to fault in that.
Six in the fifth: Restraint reaches even the jaw -- words come out orderly and considered, and whatever regret there was fades away.
Nine at the top: A stillness this deep and genuine brings good fortune.
